  1. Ekta Kapoor went to Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, and attended Mithibai College too.
  2. When she was barely 17, she started her career in advertising with Kailash Surendranath but failed there.
  3. Ekta’s dad Jeetendra was offered a lucrative business deal by an old friend who bought a Europe-based South Asian TV Channel called “TV Asia” from Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. Jeetendra had to create shows for this network. This is when Ekta was called to make telefilms. But unfortunately, 6 of her telefilms failed miserably. And Ekta was only 19 then.
  4. In 1995, her TV Serial about a family of 5 sisters, their parents, and the unusual comedy surrounding them won the hearts of the audience and the critics finally. That show is none other than Hum Paanch which is still considered one of the best Indian TV Serials of all time.
  5. With Kanyadaan and Ghar Ek Mandir, her popularity soars higher, and then in 2000, her most ambitious and most popular TV Serial - Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi aired. That changed the history of Indian Television forever. The TRP of this show was staggering and people actually returned to TV sets for spicy stories, melodrama, and a celebration of deep Indian-ness.
  6. Around 2008, Balaji Telefilms and Ekta Kapoor saw one of their darkest phases. All her long-running mega serials saw a dip. One of her most expensive and ambitious projects “Mahabharata” was pulled off the air and that gave a loss of INR 27 crores. One after the other most of her TV Serials went off-air. So, Ekta then created ALT Entertainment in 2010 which is a banner to produce and concentrate on youth-centric subjects in films and television. The same year, they released “Love, Sex Aur Dhokha” across 487 theaters countrywide, under the ALT Entertainment subsidiary and the movie was loved by all. Also, in 2012 BOLT Media Ltd was launched as a subsidiary to Balaji Telefilms which specialized in advertisements and online content. BOLT was also meant to cover genres like youth, humor, neo-mythology, reality, scripted reality, and factual entertainment. All these worked in her favor!
  7. Today, Ekta Kapoor’s company “Balaji Telefilms” has an asset of INR 1213 crores, an operating income of INR 576 crores, and revenue of INR 582 crores.
